"we are the dead"

-Winston & Julia

"he had won the victory over himself. He loved Big Brother

-Winston
can who we are be altered or will some part of us always remain the same?
does ignorance give us the strength we need to pull through certain difficult situations?

Book Review

1984 by George Orwell is a thought provoking, intense yet somewhat dark novel set in a future dystopia fueled by totalitarianism/ absolutist beliefs. By following the ordeals of Winston, a middle class member of the country known as Oceania, Orwell creates a eerily plausible future that will keep you perplexed even days after you have finished the novel.

essential question

a question that this book brings us to ask ourselves is how strong do you stand for your morals?
an important question that comes from reading this book is- is happiness just a state of mind that can be altered at whim? or is it more deep-rooted than that?
